The full story about Sandra

Sandra Baker
Director of Operations and Family Support

Sandra Baker is the Director of Operations and Family Support for the DSALA. She is also a mother of two. Sandra has a teenage daughter and a younger son who was born with Down syndrome. She and her husband have lived in the Los Angeles area for over 25 years.

Sandra began working with the DSALA in 2007. She has a long history of involvement and advocacy in the disability community. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the North L.A. Regional Center and has worked under a grant at the Family Focus Empowerment Center and Early Start at CSUN. As a member of the Parents’ Counsel for the Modified Consent Decree she attends monthly meetings addressing issues related to special education in LAUSD. Sandra also leads a group for Spanish Speaking Parents sponsored by a collaboration of the Family Focus Center and the North L.A. Regional Center.

Since becoming a part of the DSALA Sandra has reached out to the Spanish Speaking Community who have children with Down syndrome is the Greater Los Angeles Area. The DSALA materials for new parents are now available in Spanish thanks to Sandra’s work. Other materials at the DSALA are also available in Spanish to meet the needs of this ever growing population in Los Angeles.

Along with the daily operations of the DSALA Sandra is available for outreach to the Spanish Speaking Community, attending programs and addressing parents whose primarily use the Spanish Language for communication.
