People First Language

Our People First Language (PFL) defines respectful, accurate communication that recognizes that people with Down syndrome are not their diagnosis or disability. Someone with Down syndrome is a person first - perhaps a co-worker, a sister, a brother, a student. Our child is not a “Down syndrome child” or a “Down’s kid”. He or she is a child with Down syndrome.
