Music Therapy -Culver City
The Culver City Parent Support Group presents...
Music Therapy for Children with Special Needs
by Erin Haley, MA, MT-B and Leland Frates, MA, MT-BC from The Music Initiative
Whether music therapy is new to you, or if you are already familiar with it, please join us to learn about what it is, how it works and how it benefits children of all ages, and their families.
Board certified music therapists will present on how you as parents can use music therapy based techniques at home to:
• Support IEP goals
• Strengthen family relationships
• Increase cognitive, motor, and language skills
• Improve social relationships
• Provide emotional expression
In addition, learn techniques on how to assist your child without doing for them, and how to shift your thinking to use music more easily to support developmental goals.
You will be introduced to a new resource called The Music Initiative that is specifically designed for parents of children with special needs. It is based on the science of music therapy, and provides instructions, music, and techniques that are easily accessible for any parent, regardless of musical ability. And it’s designed to be fun!
As parents, you are the experts on your child/children. We want to hear from you, too. Please bring any questions that you have, as well as any of your children’s favorite songs. And yours, too--this should be fun for parents as well!
