Si nce the 1980s\, DSALA has matched highly-trained parent mentors with new a nd expecting parents who receive a diagnosis of Down syndrome. Parent ment ors provide support\, answer questions\, and help new parents make connect ions with other families in their community. This training will give pare nt mentors the necessary tools to be effective peer counselors. \n\n8-W eek Training via Zoom\nSaturdays at 10 am\nJuly 11\, 2020 - August 29\, 20 20\nRegister by July 5th to participate. \n\n\nWho will bene fit:\n-Any parent who wants to support a new parent\n-Any parent who w ants to become a spokesperson on DS issues\n-Any parent who wants to repre sent the DSALA speaking at hospitals\, schools\, and other community event s\n-New parents seeking education of Down syndrome and services available to families\n\nThe workshop will cover up-to-date information on: \n-Down syndrome and genetics\n-The grieving process\n-Listening skills an d role play\n-Navigating resources\n-Why peer counseling is effective\n-Co nnecting through personal experiences\n\nThe training is free\, but regist ration is required to participate.
