Our Own FAMILY CAMP!

Labor Day Weekend

Friday, September 3 through Monday September 6, 2010

At beautiful Camp Oakes in the San Bernardino Mountains near Big Bear

Hi Families!

I am so excited to tell you all about our Second Annual Family Camp! We will be in the beautiful Big Bear Mountains September 3-6. Many of you have may have heard about what a fabulous time we had this year, and we want contact all the families we can to be sure you have the chance to participate. This is a wonderful way to have an inexpensive, memory-making vacation with our families!

Our family has been attending Family Camp at YMCA Camp Oakes in the Big Bear area since I was about 5 years old, and now my husband and I bring our kids, his parents and my parents! There are fun activities, such as horseback riding, archery, arts and crafts, swimming, canoeing and a great campfire ring! Due to the low attendance at the 2007 Family Camp, the YMCA decided that it was our final Family Camp open to the general public. As a previous board member of the YMCA Long Beach, I proposed to change the focus and have a Down Syndrome Family Camp. Camp Oakes has an Easter Seals camp every year, and every staff member looks forward to it. They loved our camp this year and are happily anticipating our return in September!

Some families have already signed up for next year, and in order to make our family camp happen we need to have 100 participants. Deposits will be due later – we will keep you informed. If you have any questions or concerns about housing, programs, etc., please contact me. We want to share this awesome experience with as many families as we can.
