TwentyWonder

TWENTYWONDER is a fun-filled fundraising event/party that will benefit the DSALA and the community born with Trisomy 21 living in the Greater Los Angeles Area.

TWENTYWONDER will have classic stage-driven entertainment in the form of musicians, comedians, a comedic video area, dancing and a collection of items that are interesting and educational.

TWENTYWONDER is designed to attract people who are interested in the creativity, shapes, and/or values of contemporary pop culture.

Our demographic audience is a professional who works within the creative fields of Los Angeles and San Francisco and has a voice in our society.

The singular pursuit of TWENTYWONDER has been to increase the circle of compassion surrounding the DSALA and its mission.

By creating a one night event for hundreds of individuals from the Film/TV/Art communities, who are not presently participating with the DSALA, we feel this event will give them a closer view into our community.

TWENTYWONDER performers for this event are volunteering their time and talents because they believe in our organization and our mission. Their material and content will be respectful to our community and its members.

 "LoveAble Friendship Circle"

Saturday, February 6, 2010

2:00 PM to 4:00 PM

For adults with Down syndrome 18 years and older

Fee of $5 payable at the door

RSVP by Thursday, February 4th to loveAble

LoveAble is holding its first "Friendship Circle;" an opportunity to get to know other adults with Down syndrome, age 18 and older, looking for new friends and relationships.

The “Friendship Circle” is a modified version of speed dating.  Participants will be seated at tables and will have 5-10 minutes each to converse with their fellow table mate, and after their time is up, they will switch. There will be volunteers present to coach those who may be a little timid and hesitant.  We will also provide the attached questioner on each table.

The relaxed atmosphere will give everyone a chance to find a possible new friend, or even a new love interest.  It will be an afternoon full of connections and conversations. Refreshments will be provided. Parents are welcome to stay and watch, or chat with new friends at the location.

Location:

Pasadena Child Development Associates, Inc.
620 North Lake Avenue; Pasadena, CA 91101

Once inside make a left and go up the stairs to find the room we will be in.

ATTENTION ALL MOMS - and sisters, aunts, grandmothers, caregivers - any woman who "mothers" a person with Down syndrome, or other developmental disability! Do you feel like you'd like to give yourself a "time out?" Is your child's (could be an adult child) social life filling your calendar? If this describes you, it's time to get away.

The Down Syndrome Association of Los Angeles is sponsoring a "Moms Need Moms" Cruise. This will be a 3-night cruise aboard the Carnival Paradise to Ensenada, Mexico. We leave on January 29 and return on February 1, 2010. This will be a chance to network with other women who "get it," as well as a chance to relax and get a break from the responsibilities of every day life. We will get together the first evening for introductions and they you are on your own to do what you want. There are plenty of activities available to keep you busy, or you can spend your time at the spa or just sitting on the deck doing nothing at all.

All fees are based on double occupancy. If you don't know someone else sailing with us to request as a room mate, we will be happy to set you up with one.

DSALA mom Dana Young has agreed to be the organizer for our cruise. If you have questions, would like to know about the fees (starting under $300 thanks to DSALA) or would like to sign up for the cruise, you can contact her at dana@dsala.org.

A $100 deposit is due by July 22, 2009 to confirm your reservation.

Men, this would be the perfect holiday gift for the woman in your life. No shopping required!
